Annaharvey Newsletter - January 2010

Hi there, just a quick note to wish you all a very Happy, Peaceful and Healthy New Year. We have had a lovely time over the holidays with all the family around, enjoying lots of walking and visiting friends and family. The weather has been the most seasonal ever for Christmas – it has been consistently freezing for the past few weeks and is to continue this way for the next 10 days or so – we are not a nation that does freezing conditions well I’m afraid and if you listened to the national television station you would be forgiven for thinking we were suffering –40 degrees instead of  –6 degrees as so many places seem to be isolated and cut off from civilisation! I’m quite sure those of you who live in Northern Europe or indeed on the continent would think us quite mad for being even concerned about road conditions etc. but there you are, we Irish have a complete obsession about the weather – my 80 year old mother sees it as somewhat of a good thing in that she reckons it will stop them from going about global warming for a while!

This week we are really only getting back to work again properly with Henry and Aaron out first thing today to do some work on drainage across in the railway field – the ground conditions are good as the ground is rock hard allowing them to travel with ease across the area.

Sam is busy getting the new office in the guesthouse organised and working on our web site for the new year – lots of upcoming events and interesting things happening – I am in painting mode – and not the painting on canvas sort unfortunately – we are transforming the function room into  a dining area and sitting area, allowing us to have the original dining room as our Farm Food and Coffee shop on a permanent basis, so there is lots to be done before the end of the month.

The little girls are all blooming, thoroughly spoilt over Christmas with presents coming from all directions, but it was simply a joy for all us adults to have them here with the excitement of Santa etc. – it is so easy to get caught up in the magic of it all again!

The horses are all still warm and comfortable in their sheds, but are being lined up by Evelyn for dosing and shoeing etc – I’m sure they dread to see her coming as they aren’t back to work again till next week, and are happy out munching their hay and straw!

Anyway, again best wishes to all,
Lynda, Henry and all in Annaharvey.
