Annaharvey Newsletter - September 2009

Hi folks,

Well the sun is shining and all is well here with us – the rain of summer has passed and we are enjoying a beautiful autumn. Henry and Sam are very busy getting the harvest over – the corn is all cut, straw baled, and Henry is now ploughing again for winter wheat, while Sam is busy trying to get the fields cleared of bales. We are also busy getting more silage wrapped and thankfully there has been a great crop so hopefully we will have plenty of forage for the winter. With the weather being so lovely the horses and ponies are all still out in the evenings in the paddocks and we haven’t started rugging them yet which is great!

Rory, Jo and girls have moved into their new home along with Shadow their new dog – he looks like a black retriever and just bounces all over the place – Tigger is having a bit of a job adjusting to his boisterousness, while Bugsy looks at him like he is completely mad!!  We are dog sitting him for the next few days as they have gone to France for a short break, so I’m not sure how impressed Tigger will be to have his company constantly!

The Ploughing Championships are on this week in Athy – it is hard to believe it’s 2 years ago since we were hosting them here. Rachael is busy supplying food to her stand down there so there are 100’s of cup cakes and mini bakewells making their way to Athy each morning. She is busy also planning the move to Wexford where she is going to live and have her business in the next few months so it is exciting times for her. We will shortly have no one living at home – Aaron is travelling around New Zealand and East Asia for the next few months, so once Rachael moves we will be on our own for the first time since they were all away at school.

Maeve is thriving and is now smiling at us and blowing bubbles for sport when she’s in the humour – she has her father’s ability to consume food like she was going to catch a train, and has the same conversion rate! She sleeps really well at night which is a great blessing, and she lies off in her buggy while Aisling is riding and attended her first show last week!

Paddy is still out of work after breaking his ankle though he is out of plaster but still on crutches, so it is still very quiet in the yard!! As usual in Sept everything changes and it takes a bit of adjusting to get into the winter routine successfully – the students are all gone back to school and college including Pia who has been working in the house with me – we miss her not only for the work she did but for her company – she is so good humoured and friendly with everyone, we all loved her.

The next few weeks are busy with Hunter Trials on the 2nd and 3rd Sundays in October, and the indoor show jumping starting the 16th. We also have 3 Art workshops and 2 Cookery Demonstrations on the way, along with opening our Farm Food Shop again on a Saturday morning from the middle of October till Christmas. There are lots of cakes, jams and chutneys to be made for the Christmas hampers, so the kitchen is a hectic spot at the moment.

That’s aboout all for now, hope you are all getting as nice an autumn as we are.

Take care,
Lynda, Henry and Family
