Annaharvey Newsletter - May 2009
Hi All,
At the moment we are sitting here gazing out at the wind and rain wondering where our lovely fresh spring has gone – it has been so lovely over the past few months I think we were coded into thinking we were protected from our usual Irish weather! Actually at the moment we have Australian visitors staying with us who are living in London for awhile – I asked them did they think we talked about nothing but the weather in this part of the world as when you think about it – weather is more than likely to feature in almost every Irish conversation you ever heard! They said that yes – initially they found it bizarre but after living in the northern hemisphere for a while now they can appreciate why it seems so important to us!
The upside of all this is that the farm looks amazing with the fields a marvellous deep green and the trees a glorious medley of several shades of green – changing on an almost daily basis and as long as I have been living here in Annaharvey it never fails to thrill me. Life of course has changed in the yard also with the horses all out in the evenings in the fields with all rugs put away ready for laundering and repairing, while we are waiting patiently for the first mare to foal – we have 4 due but all within a 3 week period, so not too drawn out – mind you the maternity wing is for some reason unknown to me, still directly under our bedroom window despite several suggestions to Sam that a foaling paddock would look very nice out at his house!!!
We have been busy with lots of visitors coming and going, plus we had a wonderful weekend with Kevin Flood a well known artist who gave a workshop, which was well attended and really enjoyed by all – he is an inspirational teacher and we were all like sponges taking in all he had to tell us.
At the moment the lads are getting ready for our One Day Event on May 17th – Sam and Aaron are busy making new jumps and planning the course, getting all weathering down and a myriad of other jobs that are needing to be done. Aaron has been keeping us on our toes with his rugby activities – Tullamore played and won the All Ireland championship followed 2 weeks later by a narrow loss to Boyne RC in the Towns Cup Final – he’s now playing a series of matches for Leinster – our home province, the last one taking place this Saturday playing Ulster in Tullamore so it will be exciting as they have won each of the other matches and a Grand Slam would be enjoyed immensely!
Rory, Jo and the girls will be home soon and we are so looking forward to seeing them and having them here with us again – their house won’t be ready for awhile yet, but there is plenty of room here – Aaron has moved into town with friends freeing up some space – mind you his room still looks like he is still resident and am beginning to think he is going to keep a foot in both camps – just in case!!
Jenna and Paddy are working hard, Paddy was busy putting his Italian to use last week when we had a group over with us – am not too sure how much was for our benefit or for theirs!! Jenna is getting the summer camps organised for kids but we are also running an eventing camp for adults in July which should be good – it will consist of 5 days of training in all 3 disciplines + a mini event at the end which is very useful for anyone who hasn’t competed before but would like to get rid of the "first time nerves".
Henry and the boys enjoyed their trip to New York it was a great success – the high light for Henry was getting in to the floor of the exchange where they trade in commodities – wheat, barley, cotton, etc. We were glad to have them all back though as we never before had all of them gone at one time and it is amazing how many small jobs are needed to be done by one or other of them – small fixing jobs etc. so we now appreciate them a lot more than we did!!
Well that’s it for now,
Best wishes
Lynda
