Annaharvey Newsletter - October 2008

Hi there,

Greetings on this beautiful autumn evening – the trees have turned a glorious shade of gold, the fields are all bare again after the harvest, and the sound of the tractors working away in the fields sowing next years winter barley leaves us feeling all’s right with the world – at least at this moment in time!!

Listening to all the news bulletins over the past few weeks one would be forgiven for thinking that things are very certainly not right with the world, but there is only so much of doom and gloom one can take so we have decided to be upbeat about everything – or at least as much as possible – aren’t we all alive and healthy and able to enjoy this wonderful autumn.

The horses are certainly not too bothered about global warming or the price of shares and in fact given the very cold nights we have been having I’m quite certain that they would think it is more akin to global freezing we are experiencing – they are mighty glad of their warm rugs tucked around them last thing in the evening.

Bugsy is also sporting his green rug, and does his usual showing off to the other dogs – unfortunately they all give the impression that they couldn’t care less about him or his rug!!
We have no cats this year which is unusual and I’m quite sure Tigger is suffering the loss of them as they usually curl up on top of him on frosty nights when he is in his bed – the best he gets at the moment is Polly plonked beside him or partly on top of him and refusing in her usual insolent fashion to get out of the way – he’s such a gentleman he puts up with the indignity of it all!

Speaking of gentlemen on numerous occasions I have heard the girls here discussing guys and all are in agreement that if Tigger was a guy he would be the “perfect man” – he’s good looking, kind, loves to please you, hates to be in anyone’s bad books, always welcomes you as if he is really pleased to see you,  generally does what he is told and goes out of his way to make up to you when you give out to him – what more could a woman want? Polly on the other hand would be any man’s nightmare – the good looking girl that doesn’t give a toss about anyone but herself!

Anyway, enough about dogs – we are busy as ever, with 2 Hunter Trials over and the jumping league started again on Friday nights, and we still have guests coming and going. We are also busy getting the stocks of jams and marmalades up to scratch for Christmas – Henry and I are off to Minneapolis on Nov 13th to see Rory and Joanna so that is putting us under an extra bit of pressure to get as much done as possible.
We are really looking forward to seeing them again and of course particularly to see Katie – she seems to have grown up so much in the few short months since they left so we hope she hasn’t also forgotten who we are – that would give us some land!

Apart from all that, life is ticking away nicely here in Annaharvey, Christmas around the corner and a whole new year in front of us, scary the way time is flying by. Henry is busy on the farm and Aaron is at home helping him which is great as it is very difficult for him to manage on his own when there is ploughing, sowing, manure to be spread, and a host of other work that all seems to have to be done at the one time. Aaron has finished his Master’s in Queen’s University in Belfast just recently and is awaiting results, so hopefully he will do well. Rory is really enjoying the research work in the US, quite different from here in Ireland so a great experience, while Sam is working away keeping us all going with the business – he has become quite the motivator so the wheels are definitely turning!
Rachael is also doing well with her business, getting more and more shops to take her product she seems to be constantly on the go, but enjoying it.

Jenna and Paddy are both still here and working hard – Paddy keeps us entertained as usual, he is really enjoying riding and competing on Wilma with great plans for next year on the eventing scene.

That’s about all the news from us for now – best wishes to you all and hope you are enjoying as beautiful autumn as we are.

Lynda, Henry and extended family!
