National Ploughing Championships - 2007
Annaharvey Farm was host to the 2007 National Ploughing Championships.
Over 150,000 visitors attended National Ploughing Championships at Annaharvey over this three–day event.
President Mary McAleese opened the three–day Championships on Tuesday, September 25. Other notable visitors were the Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, who attended on Thursday, Agriculture Minister Mary Coughlan and Tánaiste Brian Cowen.
The Gardaí implemented a Traffic Plan within a 40 mile radius of Tullamore. Including car parking spaces, ploughing ground and exhibition land, covering 60 acres with 850 trade stands, the Championships together with surrounding farms covered 610 acres.
To give some idea of the size of the event, Managing Director Anna May McHugh described how a visitor could see all of the trade stands over the three days. ’You would have to spend just under two minutes at each,’ she said.
With 19 All–Ireland ploughing titles, the event attracted both competitors and visitors from the four corners of Ireland and beyond. Featuring livestock exhibitions, machinery demonstrations, forestry village, motor show, bio energy village, education and entertainment events throughout each day, the National Ploughing Championships was an event to remember.
